Prof. Smit had a decade of experience in tertiary education at  Henan University of Science and Technology. In 2013,he teached the medical students at Shantou University Medical College as a faculty member of the SUMC chemistry department.

In 2017, Prof. Smit accepted a post at Guangdong Technion Israel Institute of Technology.During the last academic year at GTIIT, he has taught English for Materials Engineering Technology, the Fundamentals of Chemistry and Organic Chemistry.
